Malabar House is a recently restored town house situated within Galle’s 17th century Dutch Fort. Tastefully furnished with pieces from all over Asia, the house is perfect for families. The house is close to the Ramparts and small beaches that are great for a morning dip. The high walls allow gentle sea breezes to flow through the house providing shelter from the midday heat. The front entrance is on the main street running east to west. The villa is managed and staffed by the Galle Fort Hotel, who provides delightful pastries, coffee and tea, and fresh fruit for breakfast.
Accommodation Malabar House has two double bedrooms and one room with a bunk bed and double bed. The master bedroom has access to the large roof terrace. The other bedrooms are all downstairs overlooking the courtyard and pool and have air conditioning.
Facilities The covered roof terrace with views over adjoining houses is perfect for evening cocktails as well as quiet escapism during the day. There is a more formal seating area inside at the front of the house as well as comfortable chairs around the pool. A large round table can be set in the dining area. Meals can also be taken on the roof terrace as well as by the pool.
Excursions Galle Fort is like nowhere else in Sri Lanka. Enter through the new English gate or the old Dutch gate and enter a different country. Renovated Dutch architecture of some of the 600 odd houses crowd the narrow streets in this 90-acre Fort. Largely built by the Dutch the Fort is another of Sri Lankas World Heritage sites. The Ramparts are used for romantic strolls as well as early morning power walks as well - of course - for local village cricket games. They also provide an excellent vantage point to capture the atmosphere of an international test match. The Fort has a number of small beaches that are suitable for morning swims. There are some fine beaches just outside of the Fort including Wijeya, Unawatuna, Mirissa and Hikkaduwa. |
