Kadju is well named. It translates as cashew nuts and they surrouns this wonderful beach house which lies among on an extensive cashew, fruit and vegetable plantation. Designed by a young local architect, Pradeep Kodikara, this two-storey beach house is situated on a hillock overlooking the shimmering seas below. Kadju has a contemporary feel with open-plan living spaces that let in the tropical sunshine, cooling ocean breeze, and spectacular views of Seenimodara Bay. Uncut granite floors, cement, glass and steel elements are blended with vibrant colours, mood lighting and timber furniture, giving Kadju House a characterful ambience. The secluded and private beach below is on a cove and is ideal for body-boarding and swimming in calm conditions all year round.

Excursions Sugar Bay, with its sugar-soft sand, is ideal for long walks. The cove offers opportunities for boating, fishing and snorkelling. Visit the ancient Mulgirigala Rock Temple perched on an enormous boulder more than 200m high. According to ancient inscriptions carved on the rock, Mulgirigala dates back almost 2,000 years when it was a site of a Buddhist monastery. Nature lovers will enjoy the monkeys and numerous birds that can be seen from Kadju’s pool terrace including parrots, peacocks, fishing eagles, kingfishers, woodpeckers and humming birds. Sri Lanka’s famous wildlife parks are also situated nearby including Yala, Bundala and Kalamatiya bird sanctuary with its semi-saline lagoons and mangrove swamps that attract flocks of flamingoes. Visit Rekuwa, a small fishing village near Tangalle, where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save the endangered Marine Turtles that come to nest on the beach. We also recommend a visit to the historic city of Galle and its 17th century Dutch Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the old Fort, a small walled city with about 300 homes and an old-world feel, still remain with its well preserved bastions, public buildings, churches, lighthouse and a maze of narrow streets. |
