Designed by local architect, Renton Wickramasinghe, Barberyn’s saffron-coloured buildings rise just above the tree canopies providing picturesque views of the Indian Ocean from every bedroom. The surrounding gardens are designed by the famous landscape artist, Laki Senanayake.  Ponds, waterways, and pathways have been created through tropical jungle leading to the sandy beaches.  A Sri Lankan family-run resort with generations of experience, Barberyn is an idyllic setting where the crashing waves of the sea merges with swaying palms and tropical jungles.  The ocean breeze, sounds of birdcall, the flautist by nightfall, Yoga at the edge of the sea, and the gentle touch of Ayurvedic therapists as they soothe your worries away – a rejuvenating experience that will fill your being with renewed energy and vitality.  Barberyn takes in only Ayurveda clientele and has an excellent health centre that provides relaxing, preventive and curative treatments for a range of conditions including stress relief, weight loss, reducing of diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure and a range of other medical problems.  A minimum of 14 days stay is required at Barberyn Beach Ayurveda Resort to seek a positive lifestyle change. Rates include your accommodation, meals, up to four treatments a day including massages and herbal baths, and all the Ayurvedic medicines used during your entire stay at Barberyn.

Accommodation
Barberyn has 60 a/c. The spacious and luxurious bedrooms are on split levels and include a living area, private balcony, ensuite bathroom, canopied four poster double beds with mosquito netting, relaxing lounging chairs, and writing desk. Facilities
From the husband and wife managing team, Buwaneka and Mily, to the doctors, therapists, and house keeping staff, Barberyn Beach has high standards of care. The in-house Ayurvedic health centre is headed by an experienced resident senior Ayurvedic physician along with other doctors and therapists.  The centre has extensive facilities including consultation rooms, Ayurvedic pharmacy, treatment rooms, herbal baths and a small gym.  The health of each and every guest at Barberyn is monitored meticulously and comprehensive records are maintained.  Following an initial consultation with the physician on your first day at Barberyn, a treatment plan is caringly implemented. The Ayurvedic herbal oils, medicines, tonics, and body wraps are prepared in-house using many herbal medicines from Barberyn’s gardens. Emphasis is also given to nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Health centre doctors work closely with Barberyn’s chefs.  During meal times, a doctor is at hand to guide guests on appropriate nutrition based on their individual treatment plans. Vegetarian Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served here prepared with local fresh fruit and vegetables. Alcoholic beverages are not available here.  Barberyn emphasizes positive health and the balance between mind and body through a combination of ancient philosophies including Yoga and Taichi.  Classes are held daily in an open-sided pavilion in the gardens. A Buddhist monk regularly conducts meditation. There is no television, radio or newspapers here. For those wanting to be in touch with home, there is limited access to wi-fi at the reception area as well as an office computer.

Excursions
The vast secluded beach in front of the resort is ideal for swimming during the season as well as for walks. Explore the gardens scattered with palms, medicinal plants and tall fruit trees that attract many birds, butterflies and monkeys.  Visit Weligama’s village markets and ancient Buddhist rock carvings at Kustarajagala nearby.  Explore Matara with its lighthouse, Buddhist temples at Dondra, and ruins of the Dutch Fort.   Galle’s historic 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is just 45 minutes away.  Hours can be spent exploring its ancient narrow streets Koggala’s Folk Museum depicts the history of Sri Lankan folk culture.
