Saturday Dec 10, 2011 Deputy Economic Development Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena says Sri Lanka, which welcomed its 750,000th tourist on Nov. 24, is expected to complete 800,000 tourist arrivals before December 31.
He stated that a 22.2 percent increase in tourist arrivals was seen within the last 11 months.
The number of visitors to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy also rose by 44 percent, he told a press conference today (09).
The Deputy Minister pointed out that 12, 000 direct job opportunities have been created within the tourism industry this year
